We’re Hiring: Events & Marketing Associate

Delivering engaging and meaningful experiences–both online and in person–is a critical component of how UpStart brings bold Jewish ideas to light. UpStart is seeking an Events and Marketing Associate to serve in a key support role for The Collaboratory, the largest annual convening of Jewish community visionaries and catalyzers of change in North America, and for UpStart’s Brand Strategy department, which implements UpStart’s marketing and communications strategies. This is an important opportunity to join a dynamic team charting The Collaboratory’s next phase, as well as supporting our efforts to highlight the inspiring work of our field.

A member of the Brand Strategy team, the Events and Marketing Associate is a full-time exempt position based in the Bay Area or Denver (preferred). We are also open to candidates who reside in our other hub regions (Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles). This position reports to the Senior Director, Brand Strategy, and partners closely across teams (Brand Strategy, Development, Program, and People & Systems).


The Collaboratory (70%)

Registration and Outreach:

  • Deliver a seamless user experience for event registrants:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective registrants
    • Execute on all recruitment and outreach communications, as well as participant-facing communications, across multiple platforms
    • Coordinate onsite event registration/check-in process
    • Manage all registration/coordination of special Collaboratory programs
  • Support execution of registrant data collection and systems management:
    • Build and maintain event websites, ticketing systems, and event apps
    • Maintain clean lists and regularly pull and analyze registration data
    • Coordinate any special application and review processes
    • Serve as liaison to full team regarding all registration activities

Event Coordination:

  • Assist Event Planner in all logistical aspects of producing the event:
    • Coordinate and produce all signage, materials, and supplies
    • Support program and presenter logistics coordination, including payment and reimbursement processing
    • Manage guest room hotel block and associated communications
    • Create templates, guidelines, and systems to ensure efficiency, consistency, and brand-alignment of all UpStart events
  • Provide support for other UpStart events, time permitting

Marketing (30%)

  • Support production and delivery of digital and print communications:
    • Research and produce swag, signage, and materials
    • Maintain clean and updated communication lists
    • Develop, update, and optimize website content
    • Create branded graphics and imagery to support email and social media campaigns
    • Manage all marketing assets (photo, video, etc), including the creation and management of all marketing templates for the UpStart team
  • Support other email, social media, and marketing projects or initiatives, as needed


  • At least 2 years of experience in a program/event planning, marketing support, and/or administration role in a nonprofit or entrepreneurial setting
  • Strong customer service skills, exhibiting a positive attitude, professionalism, diplomacy, and tact
  • Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional time management skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • A skilled and compelling writer, whether in a tweet or an email; excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Familiarity with website, marketing, and data management software products, including but not limited to MailChimp, WordPress, Salesforce, and Canva
  • Knowledge of the Jewish communal landscape and/or the larger field of entrepreneurship and social change


Our starting salary for this position is $52,000, assuming at least 2 years of relevant experience. If you have differing experience or have other salary requirements, let’s talk.

Our internal process from submission to offer will look as follows:

  1. A preliminary call will be scheduled with our internal recruiter.
  2. Candidates who advance to the first interview will meet with the Hiring Manager.
  3. Candidates who advance to a second round will complete an experiential assignment in advance of interviewing with two primary collaborators for this position – the Event Planner and Communications & Content Manager.
  4. Finalists will participate in a third-round interview with the Hiring Manager. References will be requested of all finalists in advance of this final meeting.
