Bringing to light

Behind the scenes magic to optimally catalyze community and collaboration.

The basics

Emily comes to UpStart with a diverse experience and a passion for working with nonprofits. Born and raised in Los Angeles, and the granddaughter of a former Hadassah Regional President and National Board member, Emily is proud to work for an organization dedicated to building Jewish community and culture.

Prior to working at UpStart, her work has been focused in arts management, outreach, and education. Her work in development for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra resulted in the highest grossing Gala in the company’s fifty-year history. Passionate about arts outreach and education, at the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, Emily coordinated and supported weekly music education for over 4,500 children in underserved communities.

A trained Opera singer, Emily has enjoyed a steady performing career in conjunction to her work with nonprofits. She has performed on operatic and theatrical stages all over the world and apprenticed under Marilyn Horne as a Vocal Fellow and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. She earned her Bachelor’s in Music from UCLA and her Master’s in Music from Mannes College, the New School for Music in NYC. She is a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa.

How Emily finds meaning and comes together with others:

Music is Emily’s ultimate communal tool. From chanting niggunim at Shabbat dinners with family and friends, singing for High Holy Days, to musical stage productions singing with a full cast and orchestra, music brings Emily into community. She finds meaning in spending time with family and friends and her adorable kitties, Breezy and Sophie and family dog, Noah.
