The InHEIRitance Project

BOLD JEWISH IDEA

The InHEIRitance Project practices an open artistic process to create theater from authentic community dialogue about shared inheritances.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

The In[HEIR]itance Project helps communities navigate challenging civic conversations through a unique process of collaborative theater-making. Our artists embed themselves in a community, and work in partnership with local artists, synagogues, schools, service organizations, and community members to identify and activate a local dialogue around a difficult issue, often with national relevance. We root the playmaking process in inherited wisdoms of the past, from biblical texts and folklore to local myths and culture. At the end of the process, the play conceived, devised, and rehearsed over the course the residency is performed for the community, accompanied by facilitated community talkbacks. To ensure a lasting impact beyond our project’s completion, we support the continuation of dialogue: 100% of box office proceeds go to local artists and arts organizations to keep the conversation going through their own artistic practice.
