How do we become extraordinary leaders? How do we fulfill our purpose? How can we build the most meaningful impact-driven lives? These animating questions have shaped Lara’s career, who has devoted nearly 25 years to leadership development, organizational growth, and social change.

In addition to supporting UpStart as an Associate, Lara is the founder of The Genuine, where she provides coaching, strategy-development, and advisory support to leaders seeking to elevate themselves, their teams, and their organizations. As a purpose expert, she created a science-backed methodology to support leaders to understand and enact their purpose, and bring these practices to their workplaces. As a trained executive coach, Lara supports entrepreneurs and CEOs on deepening their leadership practices and generating greater impact. As a consultant, she offers strategy and planning support for building pioneering new organizations, programs, and communities.

Previously and for over a decade, Lara served as the co-leader of Echoing Green, an angel investor in start-up social change organizations around the world. There, she worked with hundreds of the world’s most extraordinary social entrepreneurs, supported the launch and development of 250+ path-breaking organizations in over 70 countries, authored two books on career-pathing and purpose, and grew the organization by seven-fold.

For Lara, purpose comes from being engaged in a diverse portfolio of organizations. She serves as a founding co-chair of Wesleyan’s Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship, and board chair of the Initiative for Medicine Access & Knowledge (I-MAK) to ensure life-saving drugs are affordable to people around the world. She serves as a founding advisory board member for the Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) for NY-based women executive directors of social impact organizations. She also founded We Are Coaches, a learning and support network for New York City-based coaches.

As a speaker, facilitator and thought leader, she has worked with dozens of organizations including Stanford University, Overdeck Foundation, 92Y, Harvard iLab, Harvard Business Review, New School, Be Social Change, The Philanthropy Workshop/Ford Foundation.

Lara is a phi beta graduate of Wesleyan University and received her master’s with honors in strategic communications from Columbia University. Her coach training is from CTI and Coach Rising. She is the author of two books, Be Bold: Create a Career with Impact and Work on Purpose.
